Today’s passage is super relatable. Ever felt frustrated by those who reject God’s truth? You’re not alone. In Psalm 119, the author (possibly David or Ezra) shares that exact feeling. Despite the mockery of the insolent, he finds comfort and hope in God’s promises. In this passage we can learn better how to study the Bible and see how God’s Word equips us to handle life’s challenges. Remember, let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly. Remember, the focus of the Dwelling Richly podcast is that we are not just reading the Bible, but truly dwelling in the Word. I have some practical tips on how to make your Bible study sessions more meaningful and also how to align your life with God’s statutes. This episode is part of a summer series dedicated to enriching your Bible study practices, ensuring that you approach scripture with an open heart and a clear mind.

Dwelling in the Word and letting the Word dwell in us richly is different than reading the Bible or reading a devotional with Bible passages. Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly and return the favor by dwelling in the Word – not “doing” Bible study, not simply reading – but moving into the Word with heart, soul, mind, and strength. It’s being intentional in making a shift from treating the Word of God like a self-help book to letting it dwell in us as the living Word of God that it is.

3 Tips for Studying the Bible Better:

  1. (1) Approach with Expectation:
    • Tip: When you read the Bible, approach it with the expectation that it will provide guidance and answers to your life’s questions and challenges.
    • Explanation: Approach God’s word with an expectation that it will teach you how to handle difficult circumstances and deal with challenging people. This mindset helps you remain open to the lessons and insights the Bible has to offer.
  2. (2) Reflect on God’s Consistent and Wholesome Rules:
    • Tip: Reflect on the consistency and wholesomeness of God’s rules to find comfort and order in a chaotic world.
    • Explanation: Reflecting on God’s timeless laws and statutes can bring comfort and a sense of stability. By revisiting and contemplating God’s word regularly, you can find peace and direction amidst life’s chaos.
  3. (3) Seek Righteousness in Your Study:
    • Tip: Seek God’s righteousness as you study the Bible, especially when dealing with feelings of anger and frustration.
    • Explanation: Anger should be rooted in seeking God’s righteousness. When studying the Bible, focus on understanding and aligning with God’s righteous standards, which can guide your responses and actions in a way that honors Him.
