Psalm 119:1-8 || Ep. 1 ABCs of Grace – Aleph א

Focus:

Israel’s shame from disobedience and Ezra’s deep commitment to God’s Word. It emphasizes the importance of faithfulness, obedience, and the consequences of sin. Despite failures, God remains faithful, desiring to bless and restore His people, encouraging believers to live out their faith and turn defeat into testimony.

Key Points:

  • 1) Obedience to God’s Word: the importance of following God’s commandments, as disobedience leads to shame and defeat, just as it did for Israel.
  • 2) God’s Faithfulness and Desire to Bless: Despite Israel’s failures, God remains faithful and desires to bless His people, showing that He never gives up on us, even when we make mistakes
  • 3) Turning Defeat into Testimony: Encouragement for believers to use personal defeats and struggles as opportunities to grow and help others, turning shame into a powerful testimony of God’s grace.
  • 4) The Role of Ezra and the Priesthood: Ezra’s deep commitment to God’s Word is highlighted as a model for believers, showing the importance of personal responsibility in faith and leading others by example.

First of 10: This is the first episode from my dad’s remastered 1981 Sunday School class, “ABCs of Grace” where he went verse-by-verse through Psalm 119. Dad taught this series from 1981 to 1982 – at least 25 messages. So far, I have 10 of those and I’ll be posting a new episode Mondays, August 26-October 21, 2024. Maybe I’ll find more, and if so, I’ll keep sharing them! God is good and I’m incredibly thankful to have found these.

Dad’s Gift: My dad teaches through Psalm 119 with great insight, warmth, and that humor we loved so much. You’ll hear about Ezra’s struggles, the importance of personal application, and the comfort that God’s Word brings, even when we’ve messed up. But this isn’t just a history lesson—it’s a powerful reminder that God’s Word is alive and active today, ready to guide us through our own ups and downs. You’ll really enjoy this message and the rest coming soon in this series.

Who is that?  In this episode, you’ll here my dad make reference to Pastor John (we also called him Pastor Jack.) I have a tender place in my heart for Pastor Jack’s influence on my family. He is the father to Pastor John MacArthur of Grace to You ministries and the Master’s Seminary, and was the interim pastor of our church while my dad was teaching this series.
