Yesterday was my birthday.
When I blew out the candles I made a wish for you and a few for myself as well…
That you would try something new like kayaking or roasted bone marrow with garlic on crusty French bread. (Call me – I’ll do both with you!)
That you would make small goals so that you can have a little success each week and then dream and plan for something big with next year in mind also.
That you wouldn’t wait to forgive or make things right with that person but do it today and not be self-righteous or so nervous about everything.
That you would laugh at how funny and ridiculous you are and still know how capable and badass you are when you’re not too busy taking yourself so seriously.
That you would stop lying even little white lies and just be honest with yourself and with others.
That you would listen better without getting defensive.
That you wouldn’t be afraid to share strong opinions. It’s ok if someone gets offended. Go ahead and share with a spirit of love. They need to grow in their ability to listen better without getting defensive too.
That you would give yourself as much grace and room to grow as you give others.
That you wouldn’t wait until January 1st to start over – every morning God’s mercies are new – your life can start over any day too.
Birthdays are our own personal New Years’ Day. I may not get another 365 days let alone 3, so I will live each day with hope and with intention and I wish pray the same for you.
“Teach me to number my days that I might gain a heart of wisdom.” – that’s an awesome verse because it reminds me that God is ready to teach and I can be always willing to learn – I pray we both are.
