This post might be for you…it might be for someone you love. Either way, I hope you’ll hear my heart…
I would say that one of the most common things I hear from women is a longing to be known. That longing brings many to look for answers in faith – and rightly so.
So, we go to church. We pray or try to. We read the Bible – again, or try to. We join a Bible study group. All good things. But here’s what I’m seeing…
In our longing to be known we seek first for ourselves and our needs and in that honest seeking we find ourselves continually lost, never quite finding the connection we’re looking for, never quite satisfied – or at least not a lasting satisfaction.
We do the good things – Bible study groups, praying, church attendance – but since our focus is still on our own pain and longing, we only get a temporary fix because the need hums so loudly and persistently in our hearts.
Bible study didn’t quite give us what we were needing that day. The Sermon was good, but we still ache for answers.
Persistent, hopeful, and somewhat obligated to keep us the appearance that being a good Christian will work if we can just do it better, we press on and keep trying. We wear our faith like a costume and walk around with religious activities like props for our outfit.
But…still we ache, and somewhere inside we begin to wonder if this faith we claim is really true.
Below are links to watch or listen to the teaching through Genesis 11 – the infamous Tower of Babel through the first war mentioned in the Bible and the mysterious man/priest/king Melchizedek –
You might wonder why it’s here in a post about finding yourself, but, if you’ll give it a listen, I believe you’ll gain some insight that will help you personally and also empower you to help a friend who is struggling in this way.
Watch or listen…
