I keep seeing repeated numbers. A lot. Like every week…sometimes more than once a day numbers will line up, repeat, and appear together. Is there a hidden meaning in these numbers I keep seeing?
Actually, I’ve been noticing it so much lately that I started keeping screenshots of every time I’d glance at my watch and the time would be in repeated digits…2:22 or 11:11 or 4:44. My hubby experienced the same thing and told me that when he wakes up in the middle of the night it’s often 3:33. Both of us commented on how odd that was.
It piqued our curiosity and we even Googled, “why am I seeing repeated numbers?” Ha! Guess what? There were a lot of websites with various explanations from just statistical likelihood – yawn, boring – to mystical, hidden meaning, angelic visitations, and “being in alignment with the Universe!”…Oooooo…now, that’s reeeeeally cool. Am I getting hidden messages from angels? Does God have a special word for me? Is it a sign? Are we specially chosen or gifted?
Does your mind work like that too? I mean, my husband and I are both well-grounded, rational folks but seeing these repeated numbers had us both pondering the mystical possibilities, and while there could be a statistical probability that we could see numbers repeat in this manner on any given day, who wants those kinds of boring facts when we could be special, chosen, above the mundane of the regular world? If it had happened only on a day or maybe two, that wouldn’t have really gotten our attention, but it was happening over a long period of time – several months now – and we are still seeing repeated numbers like this, noticing patterns, having little numeric coincidences like 18 days until the Dwelling Richly Bible study starts again and today, as I write this, is the 18th! Woah!
Is there significance in all this? Is it sign upon sign? Are we missing out on a higher level of living or “elevated consciousness” as one New Age website proclaimed? Yes. Yes, I actually do think we are – that is if we miss this one very important truth: we were made for more.
As a Christian, I understand that God made me in His image. I am made for more than what my senses can bring in…more than what my eyes see, my ears hear, my fingers feel…I’m actually supernatural. Born again of spirit. My life is destined for a new heaven and new earth. I’m already a new creation, not only an image-bearer of God but a disciple of Christ who does not wrestle with mere flesh and blood “but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
Is it surprising then that I’d sense something spiritual in patterns that surprise me in my daily life? No. Seeing the patterns piques my interest, draws me in as I ponder then moves my mind out and up into a world that I cannot see but sense is there. The fact that a quick Internet search opened doors into the thoughts and ponderings of hundreds of others having similar experiences means we are all aware of the otherness, the “stranger things” that exist, the occurrences that we cannot just dismiss with statistics. We feel it. It makes us aware that even if we do not acknowledge the Creator of the universe – Elohim – He is there.
New Age, mystical, pantheistic thinkers may ascribe these kinds of “coincidences” to the universe, a force, or beings in another spiritual dimension, but believers in Elohim like my husband and me know this: The heavens declare the glory of God…the “glory of God” – not the potential greatness of man. It is the fool who says in his heart there is no God – but just a spiritual force in the universe. The fool sees the fascinating, the beautiful, the signs, and coincidences that stir their heart and yet dismisses it as statistics or attributes it to mysticism ignoring Elohim.

What this world longs for is redemption. Why? Because we sense in ourselves that we were meant to be able to discern the spiritual things better than we seem to be able to. Redemption is a return to what should have been from what is now corrupted. God, our Elohim – Creator is also our Go’el – our Redeemer – the only One who can Create and Redeem creation.
When we see the curiosities, notice the patterns, and sense the meaning behind things, that is our spirit acknowledging that there is more and it’s not centered on me being an enlightened being “united with the Universe” – it’s centered on the Elohim reminding me that He is there and He is my Go’el – Redeemer – making things right and longing for relationship with me.
So, I thank God now for these little reminders. If I wake up and see that repeated time I smile. When numbers stand out I know: God sees. And my prayer is like that of Moses who also knew God and was humble as he prayed, “teach us to number our days that we might have a heart of wisdom.” Why not see everything, every beautiful moment, every curiosity, every interesting coincidence and let each one be a reminder that we were made for more and that God is indeed everything to me? Are there hidden messages in the numbers? Yes…and no. Hidden only until I remember that the God who sees is my God who will be seen.
A song that comes to mind while I think of these things is an older chorus I sang growing up, maybe you remember it too? “He’s Everything to Me” by Ralph Charmichael…
In the stars His handiwork I see,
On the wind He speaks with majesty,
Though He ruleth over land and sea,
What is that to me?
I will celebrate Nativity,
For it has a place in history,
Sure, He came to set His people free,
What is that to me?
Till by faith I met Him face to face,
and I felt the wonder of His grace,
Then I knew that He was more than just a
God who didn’t care,
That lived a way out there and
Now He walks beside me day by day,
Ever watching o’er me lest I stray,
Helping me to find that narrow way,
He’s Everything to me.
